Geographic Data & Licensing

RetroMine uses geographic information from the Countries States Cities Database.

Data by Countries States Cities Database Countries States Cities Database (v3.2-export.8)

Made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0

Integration

RetroMine integrated and modified the source geographic data into normalized regions, subregions, countries, states, cities, and postcode records. Existing RetroMine primary keys and application relationships are retained. Source identities and release provenance are stored separately where supported; countries are matched by ISO2, and other entities are resolved using source identity and their administrative hierarchy.

Included data

The geographic derivative contains source-backed regions, subregions, countries, administrative divisions, cities, and postcodes, together with source-provided names, calling codes, postal metadata, coordinates, and geographic timezone metadata.

Source and provenance

The source files were validated against the pinned v3.2-export.8 import manifest and checksums, then imported into RetroMine tables. The upstream MySQL dump was not executed against the RetroMine application database. Geographic timezone fields are location metadata and do not replace user or browser timezone preferences.

The importer manifest records 5,308 states and 153,312 cities. The tagged upstream README reports 5,299 states and 153,765 cities. The repository does not contain the source export files needed to reconcile those differing counts, so the discrepancy remains unresolved; RetroMine has not changed imported records to force a match.

Not included

Currency and language datasets were intentionally excluded. This public geographic export does not contain user, seller, address, order, product, payment, messaging, notification, or other private marketplace records.

Machine-readable access

The download is a streamed NDJSON representation of source-tagged geographic records, preceded by a metadata record with source, release, license, generation time, included tables, and record counts.

Based on the ODbL requirements and the current integration, RetroMine treats the integrated geographic dataset as a derivative database for purposes of this compliance implementation. This is an implementation/provenance statement, not legal advice.
